Being internally motivated plays a big role in your success and general satisfaction with the quality of your life.
Those who are externally motivated typically depend on external events and things to make them feel happier. On the other hand, internally motivated people tend to have an inner drive and they can thrive, even if things don’t work out as they wanted to.
It’s a house of cards
As soon as you start making your happiness dependent on things outside of your control, you’re heading for trouble.
We’re all guilty of thinking thoughts like: “once I lose the weight, I’ll accept myself” or “I just need a better wardrobe to feel prettier”. And what about “I need a better job so I can feel more valuable as a person.”
However, this becomes a problem when it is your default thinking!
Make your happiness independent from your external life, and focus on what you can control instead.
The most effective way to do this, is to learn how to switch from external motivation to internal motivation.
