A GUIDE TO DO EFT TAPPING YOURSELF
EFT Tapping is a self-help technique that you can use to take control of your emotional wellness, your health, and ultimately your life.
It connects you to the mostly behind-the-scenes inner beliefs and past experiences that continue to influence you today and then goes on to resolve the emotional intensity thereof, effectively releasing you from the past.
In this guide, we will look at what EFT is and how to do it.
Research and science today, are confirming that our thoughts really do influence our reality, as they are responsible for how we react, feel and think about situations. In addition, we are made up of energy, and everything in our world is made up of energy.
This is an important concept because it means that how we think and how we feel affects the universal energy field. Negative emotions such as guilt, sadness, worry, anger pull our own energy in towards us. It limits our vision and it reduces our personal power and effectiveness.
In contrast, higher emotions such as love, joy, and gratitude expand our energy as it contributes to the unified field and increases our personal power and thus the possibility to create exponentially.
We carry our past experiences with us
Every day we may get triggered by events and people that remind us of something in our past.
However, most of us don’t know recognize what causes the triggers as it happens on a subconscious level, we only see that we got angry, over-indulged again, or felt bad about ourselves.
Other ways in which this can show up are anxiety, weight problems, addictions, relationship difficulties, problems with intimacy, poor self-esteem, problems at work and illness and chronic pain.
What EFT does is work on resolving the causes of the triggers, so that we stop reacting to our life and circumstances and instead get back in the driver seat of our life.
Anyone can learn how to do EFT
Unlike complicated healing therapies, EFT is a very simple and effective process in comparison. Anyone can learn how to do it, and in fact, this is one thing that sets EFT apart from most other personal development tools and healing modalities.
There is a process in EFT called the Personal Peace Procedure, which is how you can work with EFT yourself, at home.
How does EFT work
The EFT Tapping sequence looks quite strange at first! You tap on various spots on your face and upper body, using the fingertips of one or both hands, and you say certain statements at the same time.
You always follow the same sequence, starting on the side of your hand, moving to the top of your head and ending on your high ribs under the arm, no matter what issue it is that you are working with.
This is something important to note about the nature of EFT Tapping – the same method works on all issues. So you don’t have to worry about whether you are doing it the “right way” to resolve your specific emotional intensity, you can just tap.
Watch out though – our issues might look similar on the outside (think poor self-image, weight problems, anger, grief) but our issues were not all caused by the same events.
This is demonstrated by the fact that two siblings, who grow up with the same environmental exposures and events, turn out completely different from each other.
How to do EFT Tapping
According to the original discovery statement, the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system.
Address the disruption and the negative emotion gets resolved.
You might spot the problem here though. We don’t necessarily know what causes the disruption as most of this is in our subconscious.
The way that EFT Tapping solves this is by focusing on those specific events that happened to us during our life, which hold an emotional charge for us, and reducing the emotional intensity of those events so that they no longer bother us.
The basic process is as follows: You choose something which bothers you, such as a feeling, a thought or a physical pain, and then you apply the EFT Tapping sequence until it stops bothering you as it did before.
The EFT Set-up Statement and Tapping Sequence
Let’s look at the process in a little more detail. This is a very brief explanation to show you how to do it.
1. Decide what issue you want to work with. It can be physical pain, an emotional feeling or a bothersome thought. The more specific you can be the better your results can be.
2. Rate the intensity of the feeling or issue on a scale of 0 – 10. 0 is low and 10 is high or very intense.
3. Create a setup statement, that has your specific issue in it, while you tap on the side of your hand.
The setup statement is: “Even though I have this (insert your issue here), I deeply and completely accept myself.”
4. Now, you say a reminder phrase while you tap lightly and about 7 times on each different point, starting at the top of your head, working your way down, and ending on your ribs, under your arm. The reminder phrase is “This (your issue)”
The tapping points are: TH, EB, SE, UE, UN, Ch, CB, UA
5. Once you have done one round of tapping, rate the intensity of the original issue again on a scale of 0 – 10.
6. If your intensity is not less than 1, repeat the process. Tap on the side of your hand again while saying this setup statement, and then say the reminder phrase while you tap on all the points, top to bottom. Keep on doing this until the intensity is reduced to 1 or less.
It may happen that your intensity increased from the original number, or that you become emotional. This is usually a sign that you have locked onto a particular which is contributing to your issue and may likely give you much relief once it is collapsed.
A way to deal with this is to do what I call freestyle tap. You simply just tap through the sequence without saying any words, while being present to the emotion, until you have reduced the intensity. If the emotional discomfort is too high, then you may want to work with a qualified practitioner to help you work through it.
This is not all there is to EFT Tapping
When you see the instructions, it is easy to think that there is nothing more to EFT than simply saying a few words and tapping away. This can cause disappointment for many people who find that tapping while using the basic recipe, however powerful, does not give them the results they want.
This explains why tapping scripts that you find everywhere on the internet, will not really give you any lasting results, because we all experience the things that happen to us in a different way.
For example, when you were teased at school, it might have made you feel terribly rejected and you carry that hurt of rejection into all your relationships, while someone else who was teased at school, maybe didn’t like it at the time, but it doesn’t really bother them at all today.
The answer lies in how you use EFT Tapping to make it more powerful.
So, you will find that the more specific you are when working with EFT, the higher your chances of collapsing the disruption which is causing the negative emotion.
To make your experience with EFT more effective, I definitely recommend that you start using the Personal Peace Procedure process. As you go through the process, you will start to uncover those subconscious blocks and limitations that may cause you stress and has a negative impact on you physically, emotionally and mentally.
Take back control of your wellbeing
When you start using something like EFT Tapping, you get closer to healing the parts of you that are hurt or stuck as a result of the experiences that you had in your life. And the outcome of this healing is that you now start to think differently about things, which leads to you making different choices, which results in a different life experience for you.
